Harvard Interprofessional Palliative Care Fellowship Program
The Harvard Interprofessional Palliative Care Fellowship Program is a one-year clinical program that trains future leaders in the comprehensive, interdisciplinary care of seriously ill patients and their families. We emphasize:
- Rich educational experiences, including rotations in nationally renowned clinical sites and an extensive curriculum taught by experts in the field
- Strong interprofessional collaboration not only in clinical settings but in the fellowship program itself, where physician, advance practice nurse, pharmacy, and social work fellows progress through the fellowship year together
- Training in a pedagogical approach to teaching palliative care, led by committed clinician educators
- Commitment to self-care through role modeling, primary mentor assignments, quarterly meetings with the fellowship directors, and a yearly day-long retreat
Four types of fellowships are offered:
- ACGME-accredited physician fellowships training (eight to nine fellows per year in pediatric or adult medicine)
- Three nurse practitioner fellowships that train a total of three or four fellows per year (one in pediatric palliative nursing and two or three in adult medicine palliative nursing)
- A pediatric palliative care social work fellowship that trains one fellow a year
- A palliative care pharmacy residency that trains one resident a year
